The recipes and ingredients
Do I need to buy expensive or hard-to-find ingredients to make these desserts?
Although the recipes call for different ingredients than you may be used to (nuts and dried fruit instead of flour and sugar, for example), you should be able to find all the ingredients needed for these recipes in supermarkets and health food stores.
Those of you who know a little about raw food will be relieved to know that all these recipes can be made without having to buy special superfood powders etc. Of course, if you can use raw coconut oil, truly raw nuts, raw cocoa powder etc, that's great, but don't worry if you can't. You still get amazing desserts full of goodness.
Do I need any special equipment or tools to make these desserts?
I have made the recipes as un-intimidating and uncomplicated as I can, and with as few pieces of equipment as possible. If you have access to a food processor you can make all of these recipes, a basic blender is needed for a couple of them, a coffee grinder/seed and nut mill would be useful, and a waffle iron is essential for one recipe.
Are any of the recipes low fat?
Most of the recipes call for nuts, seeds, avocado or cold pressed oils to give them their texture and richness. While these fats are 'good' fats and do not cause harm to the body like transfats and heated fats do, and also contain health promoting nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, they do still contain a high percentage of fat. If you are following a very low fat diet you can enjoy all of the frozen desserts (6 recipes), 4 of the sauces and the fruit salad.
How many of the recipes use nuts?
18 out of a total of 43 recipes in this e-book use nuts, but if you can eat seeds such as sunflower seeds or flax seeds, then you could try replacing the nuts (that are often used in cake bases and pie crusts) with seeds instead, which would then make available a further 7 recipes. Only one recipe calls for peanuts (in the form of peanut butter) but this can easily be replaced with another nut butter if it is just peanuts you can't eat.
How many of the recipes use seeds?
2 recipes call for sunflower seeds and one recipe calls for sesame seeds. You easily use nuts e.g. cashew nuts instead of the seeds in these recipes.
What do I need to sweeten these desserts?
All of these recipes are made without regular cane sugar. Instead, they are sweetened with fruit sugar from fresh, dried, and frozen fruit and berries. Agave syrup or maple syrup is also used. Agave syrup is a yummy low GI sweetener that works really well in these recipes.
Are the recipes free from soya and gluten?
Nearly all of the recipes can be made without gluten or soya. There are just five recipes that require either soya milk or oat milk (which contains some gluten), and one of these recipes requires either spelt or wheat flour. These recipes are:
Waffles
Made with spelt or wheat flour which contains gluten, and requires either soya milk or oat milk.
Fluffy Apple & Cinnamon Pancakes
Can be made gluten free if you use soya milk, and can be made soya free if you use oat milk.
Hot Chocolate and Banana Pancakes
Can be made gluten free if you use soya milk, and can be made soya free if you use oat milk.
'Chocolat' (hot chocolate)
Requires oat milk or soya milk.
Hot Chocolate Shot
Requires oat milk or soya milk.
Are the recipes free from wheat?
Yes, all the recipes (except one) can be made without wheat. The recipe for waffles can be made with spelt flour instead of regular wheat flour. Although spelt does contain gluten, it may be tolerated by those who are normally sensitive to wheat. Spelt is not, however, suitable for people with coeliac disease.
What unit of measurements do you use in this e-book?
I use 'cups', as I feel that this is a quick and easy way of measuring ingredients.
1 cup = 250 ml
1/2 cup= 125 ml
1/3 cup = approx 80ml
1/4 cup = approx 60ml
Technical questions about the e-book
What is an e-book?
An e-book is a paper-less, digital version of a book. You can download it to your computer and read it on screen, or you can print it off on your own printer to read later.
In what format is the e-book?
The e-book is a PDF file.
Do I need a special programme to be able to read the e-book?
As the e-book is a PDF file, you need Acrobat Reader. If it is not already installed on your computer you can simply install it. Acrobat Reader is FREE and available for download here.
When will I receive my e-book?
Immediately! As soon as you have completed the payment transaction you will receive a link to the e-book.
I understand I can read the e-book on screen, but can I print the recipes?
Yes, absolutely! I have included a text only, black and white version for printing so you don't use up too much ink or paper printing out the e-book. And remember, you can just print out parts of it if you want. Just set which pages you want to print in your printer settings:
1. Go to the File tab in the PDF document.
2. Click on Print
3. In the dialogue box you now see, click on the 'pages' button under 'print range' and enter which pages you want printing e.g. '26-38', or just '26'.
Will you be releasing a printed version of this e-book?
I hope to one day publish this e-book in traditional paper format, though there are no current plans to do so.
