Mr Smooth’s Gentle Green Smoothie
Christoffer has a new favorite breakfast. He now starts the day with a gentle green smoothie. I love these too as they make me….what’s that? Oh, a green smoothie? Sorry, I should explain that really. Well, I am sure most you you know that a smoothie is the result of throwing a load of yummy fruit and perhaps some water, (nut) milk or juice into a blender. Well, a green smoothie, as you might have guessed is green because it contains something yummy, green and nutritious such as spinach or kale. The beauty is that thanks to the sweet fruit you can’t actually taste the green in a green smoothie, so you sneakily get some highly nutritious green leaves into you without having to chow down on a huge salad!
I call this one a gentle green smoothie because some of the other ones I make are pow! jammed with greenie goodness and taste less fruity and a bit more green and so might not suit every one’s tastes, especially if they are new to the world of greens!
So, as I was saying, I like these because they make me feel nicely energized and as I don’t put in too much sweet fruit they are balancing rather than giving me a huge fruity sugar rush! It’s a great start to the day!
Gentle Green Smoothie with Mango and Spinach
2 Cups (480 ml) frozen mango
1 large banana (or 2 if you want it sweeter), peeled
1 cup (240 ml) chopped cucumber
2 Cups (480 ml) tightly packed spinach, washed and preferably organic
A pinch of sea salt (or pink Himalaya salt)
1 cup (240 ml) water
2 tsp flax oil (linseed oil)
Pop it all in a blender and whizz until smooooth. Enjoy!
These beauties contain, amongst other things:
Mango: Vitamins C and A
Banana: Potassium, B-vitamins. Also contains tryptophan, a protein that converts to the neurotransmitter serotonin. Low levels of serotonin are believed to cause mood disorders including depression.
Cucumber: Hydrating and also contains silica which is great for the skin
Spinach: Vitamin K and folic acid
Flax/linseed oil: Omega 3
